🐾 About the Design
Kawabata Ryūshi (1885-1966) is revered as the greatest "Eternal Rebel" and revolutionary master of 20th-century Japanese painting, standing alongside Yokoyama Taikan as one of the "Three Great Pillars" of postwar Nihonga. After studying oil painting in America, he experienced a profound awakening upon encountering ancient Japanese masterpieces and returned fully to Nihonga. With astonishing courage, he withdrew from the prestigious Re-established Japan Art Institute Exhibition in 1928 and founded his own Seiryūsha (Blue Dragon Society), pioneering "venue art"-monumental works created to overwhelm viewers in vast exhibition halls, immersing them in the raw, tempestuous power of nature.

Using bold brushwork, lavish gold leaf, and mineral pigments, he created explosive paintings brimming with primal vitality, earning him the title "the modern Kano Eitoku." His works repeatedly won the highest honors at the Imperial Exhibition, the Minister of Education Award, and in his later years he was bestowed the Order of Culture-Japan's most exalted recognition.

Among his most breathtaking masterpieces is Grass Seeds (草の実, 1931). Against a profound black ground, shimmering golden autumn grasses and delicate seed heads rise like a cosmic hymn to life itself-elegant as ancient gilded sutras yet charged with explosive modern energy-an eternal classic in the history of Japanese painting.
This obi, drawn from Ryūshi's pinnacle masterpiece Grass Seeds, allows you to wear the soul of a national-treasure-level master: within the quiet autumn grasses lies a timeless power that moves the heart. To wear it is to enter an intimate dialogue with one of the most brilliant legends in Japanese art history-a rare treasure reserved only for those who truly appreciate the pinnacle of beauty.
